Taiwan Working Holiday: You can go twice!!

My part-time job at FamilyMart started last week, and my training period is finally over!!
I’m working harder than ever with more solo shifts, but I’m giving it my all.

Changing the subject, it seems the Working Holiday visa for Taiwan has been expanded from once to twice in a lifetime!!
This time, I want to share my thoughts on that!!

If you could go twice, what would you do?

While researching Taiwan working holiday programs, I came across quite a few people saying things like, “It’s more efficient to study language for three months on a tourist visa and then work on a working holiday visa.” That’s certainly true—it’s probably the most rational approach. But how many people actually jump straight into a Chinese-only workplace after graduating from language school?

Most people probably look for jobs at places with Japanese owners or where English is spoken, right? My gut feeling is that you can actually work at those kinds of places even with almost zero Chinese skills. You’ll manage somehow. I think you could easily find such jobs in places like Taipei.

Then wouldn’t it be better to start with a working holiday visa, attend language school, and start part-time work right away?
Even if you get hired with zero Chinese skills, I don’t think there are many workplaces where you won’t need to speak any Chinese at all. Your output will inevitably increase!! When you push yourself, your brain absorbs all kinds of things… probably.

If you can go twice, the sense of waste diminishes, so I recommend this option.
And fundamentally speaking, a working holiday isn’t a work visa—it’s a “working holiday visa.”
It’s a holiday. So I think you should just enjoy your holiday!!!!!!

What would I do?

This policy change only means “you can go twice,” not “you can stay for two years,” right?
If it had been “stay for two years,” I definitely would have stayed the full two years. I’ve only been in Taiwan for two months, but every day I feel like the time is completely insufficient.
However, depending on future developments, it’s possible I might have to return to Japan just for the visa and then come back again.
You never know what the future holds!!
This policy change has significantly broadened the options for how to spend a working holiday in Taiwan.
