Happy New Year!! It’s Takky here.

Taiwan is currently in the midst of the Spring Festival. For 2026, New Year’s Eve was February 16th!!

Today, I’ll introduce the streets of Tainan on New Year’s Eve!!

TOC

The streets are filled with lanterns.

When I think of the Lunar New Year, I picture lanterns, and the streets looked just like I imagined!!

There were quite a few handmade lanterns too, many with unique designs, and it was fun to look at them all!!

Apparently, Tainan City and Sendai City are sister cities, and this year marks their 20th anniversary.

Streats

New Year’s Eve in Taiwan is apparently a time for families to spend together, so it felt quieter than usual.

Even the usually bustling bar district has a high number of establishments closed.

Traffic was also quite light…

In conclusion

Many homes in Taiwan have living rooms visible from the street,

and every household was gathered together eating dinner!!

While finding restaurants open on New Year’s Eve might be a bit tricky,

it was a day to witness the special holiday scenes of Taiwanese families!!

Well then, everyone, stay safe today!!!!

So, feeling like coming to Tainan now? Haha.
