早安!!

It’s raining outside… and here we are on the last day of August in Tainan. ☔

Hi everyone! It’s Hamu from Hamuya Guesthouse in Tainan!!

Summer vacation in Taiwan is coming to an end this week.
(Yui has graduated, come back home, and is… job hunting now? Maybe? lol)

To be honest, this summer was devastatingly quiet at the guesthouse…

From what I could feel, it was even quieter than during the COVID years. 😨

So yeah, that’s the kind of summer we’ve had.

But there is one thing I’ve been working hard at—weight training! lol

Ricky, an almost-official member of the Hamuya family, and I are currently competing to see who can lift more, with yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) on the line!

The final result will be announced on September 6!!

My money keeps disappearing,
but at least my legs keep getting bigger!

( ̄∇ ̄;) Hahaha!

September 6 is BBQ day!

Anyway, enough of that.

This summer was already tough because we didn’t have many guests, and then the weather decided to give us the finishing blow as well.

So today’s blog is about some record-breaking weather we’ve had here in Tainan!

And somehow, during all this heavy rain
(I have absolutely no idea whether the two things are related),

three of our goldfish passed away.

Rest in peace. 🙏

Today’s Update

Hamu

I’ve lived in Tainan for over 13 years, but I don’t remember rain like this.

This summer, it seemed like heavy rain or a typhoon would arrive every time we were heading into the weekend.

And from around August 21, Tainan was basically—

rain, rain, and more rain…

The rain on the 23rd and 24th was especially intense.

In Rende, nearly 866 mm of rain fell in less than three days, while Yongkang recorded 841 mm.

Apparently, flooding occurred in many areas around Tainan.

I’ve lived in Tainan for more than 13 years now, and personally, I honestly can’t remember seeing rain like this before.

I do remember heavier downpours in the past.

But rain that just keeps falling and falling for this long?
It was enough to make water start leaking from places that had never leaked before… 😨

And even now, it’s still raining.

Fortunately, Hamuya hasn’t been flooded and we haven’t suffered any serious damage.

The hardest part for me is…

I can’t get to the gym. lol

Another unusual thing this summer was that we had two days when work and school were suspended because of heavy rain—not because of a typhoon.

I don’t really remember that happening very often either.

I keep saying “this summer” as if summer is already over, but…

The heat in Tainan—

is definitely not going anywhere yet.

Today’s Weather in Tainan

Expected high: 28°C
Expected low: 25°C
Chance of rain: 100%

According to the forecast, southern Taiwan is expecting heavy rain again today…

This photo was taken back in June, but Yui graduated from university and recently came back to Tainan.

Her university life began right in the middle of the COVID pandemic.

Looking back on everything that happened over those years, I have so many feelings about it.

Honestly…

some things are just too difficult to put into words.

Our family is now entering the next phase of our lives.

Alright then…

I guess Dad had better get back to work and keep pushing forward~~~!

That’s all for today, everyone.

Stay safe out there!

So, feeling like coming to Tainan now? Haha.
