Hey everyone!! Hi, it’s Kokoty!!

A little while ago, I wrote about some Mid-Autumn Festival events in the Hamuya Newsletter. Did any of you end up checking them out?〜!!

Here it is👇

Of course, I went to the event too~~!!

BUT!!

This time, I also got invited by some Taiwanese friends to join their BBQ at home!!

We grilled meat, chatted, had some drinks, and just enjoyed hanging out together……

It honestly felt like the perfect Taiwanese Mid-Autumn Festival, and I had SO much fun!!

So, this time, I’m sharing my experience of joining a local Taiwanese family’s Mid-Autumn Festival BBQ (lol).

My Mid-Autumn Festival BBQ Experience!!!

My friend’s family home is in Madou, about a 40-minute bus ride from Tainan, so that’s where we headed!!

When we arrived, we were greeted by my friend’s mom😂

And when we got to the house, my friend’s grandma had already prepared all kinds of delicious food for us……

So sweet of her 🥹

This was about all we had at the beginning, but……

But in the end, we ended up with THIS much food(笑)!!!

Honestly, I was already feeling full just looking at all of this….😂

And at this point, they brought out what might be a Taiwanese BBQ classic?!
A Taiwanese sausage wrapped in sweet, fluffy white bread~~

It has such a distinctly Taiwanese flavor, and I absolutely love it!! (^▽^)/

And finally, it was time for the main event: the BBQ!!!

(I was already completely full by this point(🥹))

There were actually two other BBQ spots besides the one I was at, and each one had a mix of people—my friend’s parents’ friends, neighbors, and all kinds of other people. I thought it was really interesting to see everyone coming together like that!

My friend is studying English, so both the people and the BBQ ingredients had a bit of an international feel to them.

They gave me a beer when they found out I was Japanese(😂)

While us university students and the adults were taking our time enjoying the BBQ, the kids who had already finished eating were setting off fireworks and firecrackers nonstop~~~!!

So there we were, trying to enjoy our food while getting startled by the incredibly loud bangs every few minutes(´;ω;`)

They went a little overboard, and before we knew it, the whole area was filled with smoke….

And finally, the BBQ was coming to an end!Just as the kids were finishing up their fireworks, us university students decided it was time for our own fancier fireworks show!

Fireworks~~!! 🎆

Apparently, it’s pretty common for families in Taiwan to set off fireworks at home during the Mid-Autumn Festival. On this day, I could see fireworks going off here and there all around us!!!

So beautiful~~!!

And that’s how I ended up making the most of Mid-Autumn Festival in Taiwan!!!

This was actually my first time spending Mid-Autumn Festival at a Taiwanese friend’s home.

We ate together, chatted, enjoyed a BBQ, set off fireworks, and just had such a great time……

Being able to experience a local family’s Mid-Autumn Festival like this was such a special experience—something I could only have done because I’m here in Taiwan!!

I had SO much fun celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival in Taiwan!!

I definitely want to have another BBQ next year~~~!! 🍖🔥🎆

And with that, everyone, stay safe out there!! 🍃

So, feeling like coming to Tainan now? Haha.
