Tainan night walk🌓🚶♀️

Hello, I’m Pingteng.☺
Out of the blue, but what do you think makes Tainan so charming? For me, it’s the comforting feeling of being in my own hometown. Ever since my first day here, I’ve felt its nostalgic and gentle atmosphere. Tainan is a city full of character, so when you visit, I really want you to fully experience its local vibe.🥟
That’s why I strongly recommend going for a walk! Strolling around, taking in the streetscapes, and checking out local spots will quickly make you feel like a resident here. ☺
However, Tainan gets extremely hot during the day! So, I recommend taking a walk at night instead.
With that in mind, today I’m sharing a night walk guide around Hamuya, brought to you by a true walking enthusiast! 🌆🌛
Top 5 Recommended Spots for a Night Walk Around Hamuya 👑
1: First, grab a drink!🧃🍺
If you’re going for a relaxed night walk in Tainan, make sure to grab a drink☺ Taiwan has tons of drink stands everywhere. You can also pick up a beer at a convenience store—just grab your favorite drink and let’s head out!(^o^)

Left: Pearl milk tea from 龜記茗品Guiji NT$60 It’s huge and cheap, which makes me happy!(>ω<)
Right: Taiwan beer from family mart NT$50
2: Stroll the main street🗣️
As soon as you step outside, you’ll catch a delicious smell coming from the local food stalls!

It’s also fun to practice your Chinese by listening to the local women’s lively conversations. If you say “Nihao,” everyone will respond with a friendly smile!

One thing to keep in mind: in Taiwan, sidewalks aren’t public property—they’re privately owned as part of the buildings! Because of this, there are a lot of uneven steps along the street.
As you can see on the right side of the photo, some of these steps can be quite high.
Watch your step so you don’t trip!!⚠️
3: Walk the Xiāngzi🐈️
“Xiāngzi” (巷子) means “alley” or “side street” in Chinese. Once you step off the main street, you’ll usually find charming little alleys that feel like something straight out of a Studio Ghibli film. You’ll often spot cats here, too. So cute! 🐱

There are so many temples everywhere! It’s always exciting to come across one while walking—it really gives you a taste of being somewhere exotic. When you get tired of the bustling main streets filled with zooming scooters, be sure to duck into one of these side alleys!🌿

4: Buy Taiwanese snacks😋
When you start to feel hungry, it’s time to grab some “Xiaochi” (local snacks)! Xiaochi refers to local street food and light bites you can get at food stalls or small eateries across the Chinese-speaking world.
Depending on your mood, you can grab a savory danbing to go from a spot open until 2 a.m., or pick up a Hong Kong-style pineapple bun.
Let’s put the diet on hold and just eat whatever we want! ( “´༥`”)
✅️Hong King-style pineapple bun is sweet buns with a crispy cookie crust on top.

5: Building with history
One night, as I was strolling through Tainan, I suddenly came across a historic and majestic building! 🙀

Since Tainan is an ancient capital, many historic buildings like this still remain today—it’s even called the “Kyoto of Taiwan.” Seeing them lit up at night is so beautiful!!!! ✨
Setting one as your destination makes for a wonderful end to your night walk. ❤
When you get tired, just head back and call it a day! Even with a loose, relaxing stroll like this, you can fully soak in Tainan’s local atmosphere.
Conclusion
How did you like the Tainan night walk guide? I’d be so happy if this makes you want to visit Tainan, even just a little!
Next time, I’d love to make a daytime walk guide as well📝 Stay tuned!
Until then, take care and have a wonderful day!
