I went to the Chimei museum!🏦🖼️

Hi everyone~ I’m Pingteng 🎐
It’s already been a whole month since I moved to Tainan! It’s such a strange feeling—part of me feels like it went by in the blink of an eye, but another part feels like it’s been forever.
To be honest, I was pretty terrified about living on my own overseas for the first time, but I’m so relieved that things are generally running smoothly now (*ᴗˬᴗ)
My goal for October is to make some local friends. Wish me luck… 🔥

Outing
In this post, I’m sharing my outing to Chimei Museum~ ☺
It’s about a 30-minute bus ride from Hamuya! Just a heads-up for taking the bus in Taiwan: they won’t stop unless you wave your hand to signal the driver.
As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by this breathtaking view ♡

It was so ridiculously beautiful and solemnly majestic that it felt totally surreal—literally like a fantasy heaven! 👼
I was already so satisfied even before setting foot inside 😿
Taking a quick break before heading into the exhibits ☕
I was feeling a bit hungry, so I popped into the Starbucks inside the museum ☕
It has a seating area on the second floor, and the spacious interior made it super cozy to hang out in (≧∇≦)b

Inside, there’s also a 7-Eleven with an eat-in space and a full restaurant! 🍱
Off to the exhibits! 🖼️

This time, I took my time exploring the permanent exhibitions~
Here are a few of my absolute favorite spots inside! 👨🏫
1F Permanent Exhibition — From the Arms and Armor Gallery ⚔️

Right: Cavalry armor from the 16th–17th century Mughal Empire 🙀
The second I laid eyes on it, I got chills—it just radiated pure power and intimidation! The Mughal Empire…?
As someone who took Japanese History in school,
I have zero clue, but it definitely looks tough!!
ラッキーQuick history check: The Mughal Empire was an Islamic unified dynasty that ruled over the Indian subcontinent (mainly northern India) for about 330 years starting in the 16th century!! 🕌✨
After looking through the Arms and Armor Gallery, all I could think was, “If someone attacked me with this stuff,
I wouldn’t stand a chance…” It made me feel so grateful to be living in a peaceful world today ☘
(Pretty sure that’s not the main point of the exhibit, though lol)
2F Permanent Exhibition — From the Fine Arts Gallery 🎨

Left: Late Autumn / Louis Émile Adan, France, 1882 🍁
This painting really stood out to me among all the Western art on display. You can totally feel the autumn melancholy in it 🍂 Since Tainan is still so hot even in October, it makes me crave that typical, cozy fall vibe even more.
I feel like Western portraiture has this beautiful blend of tenderness and sorrow. For some reason, none of the figures seem to have that catchlight or spark in their eyes, giving them a slightly apocalyptic, end-of-the-world atmosphere that I find super captivating. (Just my total amateur take on it, though!)
Right: An exhibition reproducing a 19th-century salon room.
Salons in Europe developed mainly in the drawing rooms of high-society residences in France (especially Paris) from the 17th to the 19th century—places where aristocrats, intellectuals, thinkers, and artists gathered to enjoy conversation and debate. Sounds so wonderful, doesn’t it? (TT)

It gave me major Marie Antoinette vibes, and it turns out she actually hosted her own private salons back in the day too! 👑✨

There’s so much on display here, from sculptures all the way to paintings! 🎨🗿
2F Permanent Exhibition — From the Clocks and Silverware Area in Musical Instruments Hall ⌛️

In the display cases along the hallway to the restrooms, there are antique clocks made in Europe between the late 17th and 19th centuries ⌛
Every single one is so intricately crafted and has such a whimsical, fairy-tale vibe! They were just way too cute ◜⩊◝ I low-key want to decorate my home with them ♡
Sculpture Avenue 🏛️

Above all, the sculpture display along the hallway is just so elegant 🌙 Total bliss!
Each sculpture has its own unique theme, so taking your time to ponder the meaning behind each one is a great way to enjoy the space!
The gallery has a magnificent open atrium, beautifully lit by natural sunlight streaming in through the skylight and spotlighting on each sculpture. The soft, ambient atmosphere is so relaxing (˘ω˘)
Heading out to the gardens! 🌿

After finishing up with the exhibits, I just relaxed by the lake in the garden outside ( ´ ˘ ` )
There was classical music playing softly all throughout the garden—it was absolutely wonderful! ♪

Final Thoughts 💭
I had such an amazing time! ☺
It’s the perfect spot to visit on a rainy day or whenever you just need a relaxing break during your trip 🍵
Between checking out the exhibits and taking a stroll through the gardens, half a day will fly by before you know it~
Well then, stay safe out there today, everyone! ✨️
